The AI shift

Code alone is an even weaker signal now.

AI helps almost anyone generate a working application quickly. That does not tell a hiring team who understood the problem, made the decisions, tested the result, or could maintain it. Show how you used AI: what it suggested, what you rejected, and why. Generated code is easy to produce. Judgment you can explain is hard to fake.

Questions people ask before their first tech job.

How can I get my first tech job with no professional experience?

Make your ability assessable. Build two or three meaningful projects, publish a live demo and a clear README, show your tests and decisions, and practice explaining the work. Then start targeted conversations with people in the field. A certificate alone rarely answers an employer’s questions about how you work.

Is GitHub enough to get a junior developer job?

No. A repository by itself does not explain the problem, your contribution, the quality of the code, or whether the project works. Pair it with a strong README, tests, a live demo, and a clear account of your decisions. Some people are hired with no public GitHub at all. What matters is that someone can inspect your work.

Are technical articles useful for finding a first developer job?

They help, but rarely cause a job on their own. A useful case study makes a project discoverable and gives a recruiter or engineer a reason to start a conversation. Write about trade-offs, measurements, and results, not only a tutorial.

What do employers look for in an entry-level developer?

Evidence of problem solving, reliability, communication, and the ability to ship and improve work. In practice that means readable code, meaningful commits, tests, documentation, and the ability to discuss trade-offs in an interview.
